Stepping out for Ty Hafan

Always on the lookout for a new and exciting way to serve the community, we came up with an unusual twist on that well trodden path of the charity sponsored walk.

On Sunday 15th July, as part of Bridgend CBC’s forthcoming “love2walk” Festival, and in partnership with the organisers of the Annual Bridgend Show at Pencoed, we came up with the idea of “Stepping Out for Ty Hafan” as a fund raising project for the well known children’s hospice.

At the Bridgend Show, which offered free entry to all this year, we planned two sponsored walks for the charity.

Aimed at families, especially those with younger children, there was a short one mile fun and play activity walk around the showground with a chance to make animal masks and meet some of the exhibitors’ animals, with a free ice cream for those who completed the course.

For other individuals or groups also wanting to raise funds for Ty Hafan we organised a two mile walk which took in the showground and some of its lovely surrounding countryside.

Neither of the walks were long or difficult.

At the official launch of “Stepping Out for Ty Hafan”, the Lions Walk Organiser, Tony Rees and Ty Hafan’s Christine Chandler said that they looked forward to the two organisations working closely and successfully together for the benefit of the hospice and its users.
