Who Are The Lions?
Lions are ordinary people from all walks of life who enjoy getting together and doing good things. We are kind and generous people who want to help. That’s why we work on projects to improve our communities and protect the environment. We get enormous satisfaction from the knowledge that what we do DOES make a difference. And we enjoy friendship and fun while doing so.
Whenever Lions club members get together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. Because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. Bridgend Lions are part of a global organisation, Lions Club International, with 1.4 million members in 208 countries and geographic regions. With this much manpower, it’s no wonder that Lions Club members can achieve extraordinary things, every day.
More about Lions…
The first Lions club in the UK was formed in 1950 and the organisation has rapidly expanded to more than 900 clubs in Britain and Ireland today.
The Lions Club of Bridgend was formed in 1975 and presently comprises 20 people, all of whom are volunteers. Members come from all walks of life and across a large age range – there is no maximum age, and members can join at age 18.
We form part of Lions District 105CW which covers clubs across the Midlands and Wales. In turn, our District is part of Lions Club British Isles, covering the whole of Great Britain and Ireland.
What do the Lions do?
The principal aim of Lions Clubs is to provide help and funds to those in need, whilst enjoying the satisfaction, fellowship and fun that can be derived from taking part. Lions Clubs are dedicated to improving the quality of life for those less fortunate people in our community.
The Lions Club of Bridgend provides direct service to our community by events such as support for the Bob Cook Disabled Games and collection of spectacles for recycling, but our main activity is in raising funds for charitable purposes.
Recent events have included a Sponsored Swim, Book Fair, Santa’s Grotto, Tree of Light and numerous other events. For further details of some of our events please use our links to Fundraising.
Our members also participate in various direct service activities and enjoy a social calendar which includes dinners, a horse race evening and other social occasions where the principal aim is to have fun and enjoy ourselves.
